New York Pancyprian Freedoms Claim First APSL Metropolitan Conference Title

The New York Pancyprian Freedoms added a historic first to their legendary legacy this week, as they were officially presented with the first-place trophy for the Metropolitan Conference of the Amateur Premier Soccer League (APSL) following a gritty 1-1 draw against long-time rivals Lansdowne Yonkers FC at Tibbets Brook Park.

The draw may have been the result on the scoreboard, but it sealed a season’s worth of dominance and dedication—crowning the Freedoms as conference champions for the first time since joining the APSL. The moment was more than just a trophy lift—it was a statement of growth, consistency, and ambition.

“This 2024–2025 season is shaping up to be very memorable,” said Philip Christopher, President of the New York Pancyprian Freedoms. “After winning the USASA 2024 USA Open Amateur Cup, the team went on to win the APSL Metro Conference Championship and now advances to the Eastern Regional Final of the USASA Open Amateur Cup. Our 50-year history is a journey full of victories—and this season could prove to be one of the best.”

Indeed, this campaign has been one for the record books. The Pancyprians:

  • Defended their national title by progressing once again to the Eastern Regional Final of the USASA Open Amateur Cup, to be held June 14–15 in Philadelphia.

  • Defeated Lansdowne Yonkers FC 3-2 in the semifinal of the Region 1 USASA Open Amateur Cup, thanks to a thrilling comeback powered by two goals from James Thristino and a match-winner from Gonzalo Gil de Pareja.

  • Clinched the Metropolitan Conference title with unwavering resolve, fueled by leadership on and off the field.

  • Dedicated their season to the people of Cyprus, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion, and to their late player and beloved benefactor, Constantinos (Dino) Iordanou.

And the season isn’t over yet.

The team will now shift focus to the APSL Champions Playoffs, where they’ll face Manhattan Celtics F.C. on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Queens College (6:00 PM kickoff). Another trophy is on the line, and the Freedoms are ready to chase it.

The story of the 2024–2025 New York Pancyprian Freedoms is not just one of titles, goals, and grit. It’s a story of identity, heritage, and pride. It’s about honoring a 50-year tradition while building a future worthy of that legacy.

Relentless. United. Champions.
