Pancyprians Crowned APSL Metro Champions After 2-1 Victory Over Lansdowne Yonkers FC
The New York Pancyprian Freedoms are champions of the APSL Metropolitan Conference after a hard-fought 2-1 win over rivals Lansdowne Yonkers FC on Sunday. In a match that showcased grit, discipline, and brilliance in front of goal, Junior Rosero delivered a brace—netting in the 40th and 85th minutes—to seal the victory and secure the title.
Lansdowne opened the scoring in the 19th minute, threatening to disrupt the Pancyprian’s championship hopes early. But Rosero responded with poise and precision just before halftime, leveling the score. With the match hanging in the balance, Rosero struck again late in the second half, bringing his season total to 13 goals—third on the team behind James Thristino (18 goals) and Joseph Holland (14 goals).
The win caps off a dominant league campaign for the Pancyprians, who finished first in the APSL Metropolitan Conference standings with a 17-4-1 record, continuing their tradition of excellence and consistency at the top of New York amateur soccer.
NYPF President Philip Christopher reflected on the championship win with pride, stating: “The New York Pancyprian Freedoms are making history. This season, we’ve won nearly every major competitive amateur tournament we’ve entered, and now we stand on the doorstep of the USASA National Amateur Cup. We play for victory, and for legacy.”
The Pancyprians now shift their focus to national honors as they head to the USASA Amateur Cup Regional Final on Friday, June 14th, where they will face Westchester United at the Ukrainian American Sports Center in Horsham, PA. The winner will advance to the USASA National Championship in Milwaukee.
In addition, the Pancyprians will head to the APSL National Final on June 22nd.
This season’s National Championship journey holds special meaning for the club. NYPF has dedicated it to the people of Cyprus, in their ongoing struggle for freedom and justice, and to the memory of beloved former player and benefactor Constantinos (Dino) Iordanou, whose legacy continues to inspire the team.
